April is strangely gracing us with cool weather. The morning and evening are particularly delicious, afternoons perfect beach weather. The pink frangipani (plumeria) is trying to bloom and I just can’t get rid of those spider webs in the front yard.

It would be mean to the spider.

Difficult denim to pull off, but she does it with aplomb. The cuffs are wide, divine. Almost Annie Hall-esque, but modern.
Prim cream button up, buttoned all the way up. One might be temped to leave a button or two undone, but she refrained.
If you look closely, the jacket not just brown, but a beautiful glen plaid. Shoulders are slightly big, length a little long. Borrowed from a boyfriend, perhaps?
Hair lighter on the bottom - makes me think of long summers in the sun, not a bottle of dye.
The visual definition of gamine?

I wore pale pink capris 3 out of the past 7 days. That is 42.85% of the time. One would think I hate to iron. ( I don’t) I’m just in a pale pink capri mood.

While the above photo is not of pale pink capris*, I perhaps offer you something better: my favorite cut in a color called “neon rose”. It’s a peachy terracotta with rose undertones. While it looks like a complicated color, it’s a neutral in a bright, pop-colored costume: you basically can’t go wrong.

Don’t you love it when you can’t go wrong???

As a child of the 90’s I wore my overalls like every-other-girl, along with my Doc Martins, vintage flannels and striped socks. In fact, I probably wore them all at the same time, come to think of it. Looking back on photos, they made me a big square box - no curves, all flat lines - and as comfortable as they were, I swore them off.

Fast forward umpteen years… Channeling my inner 70’s child, I adore jumpsuits. I can see why they were so popular: they are the (retro) modern answer to one piece dressing. As liberating as pants and curvy as a well-cut dress, I’m not afraid to rock a jumpsuit.

Holding Horses does beautiful denim, so I’m happy to see this overall/jumpsuit hybrid. The surplice top is downright sexy, but the patch pockets on the front keep it from reading “sex farm kitten”. The back has a center zip (like a fitted pencil skirt) and across the back you get the classic overall straps, revealing a bare back. (if you dare)

Famer girls and 90’s children need not apply…

Two thousand dandelions were painstakingly plucked, sprayed with adhesive and loaded into a custom-made wooden transporter so they could be brought to a gallery and hung from the ceiling in a surreal installation by Regine Ramseier. The work was created as part of ArToll Summer Lab 2011.

And so life goes… Just as the backyard is at its most beautiful and the weather is strangely cool and spring-ish: the mosquitos arrive. I got bit five times the other night before I called it quits. And yes, it’s a bit early for the skeeters, but it almost doesn’t matter, because before I become the mosquitos dinner, some other fine winged creature finds death by drowning in my rosé or landing in my salad.

Hmmm.

Last year, I came so close to buying some of these food covers - they are really an outdoor entertaining necessity in the South - but the storage factor got in the way. (As it always will when your house was built in 1927) But this year, there will be something between my potato salad and those unwanted guests. Space be damned.

Now, to find a mosquito net for my wine glass…
