Unwanted guests…

And so life goes… Just as the backyard is at its most beautiful and the weather is strangely cool and spring-ish: the mosquitos arrive.  I got bit five times the other night before I called it quits.  And yes, it’s a bit early for the skeeters, but it almost doesn’t matter, because before I become the mosquitos dinner, some other fine winged creature finds death by drowning in my rosé or landing in my salad.

Hmmm.

Last year, I came so close to buying some of these food covers - they are really an outdoor entertaining necessity in the South - but the storage factor got in the way.  (As it always will when your house was built in 1927)  But this year, there will be something between my potato salad and those unwanted guests.  Space be damned.

Now, to find a mosquito net for my wine glass…

Anthropologie’s windows at Rockefeller Center in NYC are wonderfully un-holiday like with scores and scores of slides.

I accidentally bought slide film once when I lived in Switzerland. (result of the language barrier) Imagine my surprise when I got back my “photos” from my trip to Venice!  I didn’t mind though, because slides are the photographic equivalent of a warm, fuzzy sweater.

I’m a sucker for anything flow-y, diaphanous, looks like perhaps it came straight out of the earlier part of the previous century.  Therefore, I’m a sucker for this…

Once again, inspired to pick up some stitches.  Penguin Classics does it again…

Say Yes…

Yes to pencil skirts with climbing gardens.

Yes to puff-pastry-esque up-do’s.

Yes to red. (Especially in handbags and lips)

Yes to twisted tees the color of a salted caramel.

Yes to over-sized gold rings worn on your first finger.

And yes, to Chinese food eaten at midnight, in the glow of neon.

(Say yes to the first thought of fall)

I keep seeing beverage dispensers everywhere! Sur la Table has easily a half-a-dozen cute ones and I believe that the last time I was at Target, they had some too.  They seem like practical items, no? It’s hot, I want to dispense a lot of liquid to keep me cool, perferably lemonade spiked with vodka/gin/tequilla.  (Completely practical)
But clearly these are marketed towards people who have a butler’s pantry to place all of their extra kitchen servingware/gadgets. If I purchased one of these fandangled items, I would have to place it in my closet, as I am short on butler pantries for the moment.
And of course, I happen to like the one that is $298, not $29.98.  It’s gorgeous: handblown recycled glass with a sheesham wood top and a stainless steel spigot that won’t crack on you after one summer’s use.  That said, if I purchased this particular one, I would also have to hide the Amex bill in the closet.  Those kind of habits do not a good marriage make.
And so I wait for sale, my dears…I wait for sale.

Let’s discuss:

1. This couch has been on the back burner of my brain since I first saw it.  Stunning. Memorable. Those things apply.

2. Not to belittle the artist’s/textile designer’s work, but wouldn’t this make an AMAZING project? (Just thowin’ that out there…)

3. Those walls are an incredible color blue.  Not quite, but so close to Klein Blue.

4. Why oh why does peeled paint look charming/appropriate in photographs but in real life it screams neglect?

I feel like statement necklaces are really hot this season.  Well, now that I think about it, statement necklaces have been hot for quite a few seasons, at least it seems to me.
This particular one feels familiar, yet somehow nice and fresh.  I love the mixed metals, the shorter length and the variety of stones (turquoise and carnelian are always perfect for spring/summer). Once you take all that into consideration, this necklace is all kinds of perfect.  What say you?  And hey, let us not forget the $58 price point.
Pretty really is as pretty does…

The little things…

I just wanted to say that (of course!) this whole outfit is some-kind-of-wonderful, but really it’s the house of cards that stole my heart…
