A necessary Weekend…

Friends, Romans, Countrymen: Today is Friday. Thank goodness.
I won’t go into particulars, but things are kinda crazy right now. Through some wonderful fluke in the universe, I am going to Key West for two whole days, smack dab in the middle of black out (a nasty retail term) and I am going to enjoy every single day.
I will commune with bicycles rides and beer. I will revel in each sunset and savor each conch fritter. I will wrinkle my linen pants and not care. I will not get sunburned by wearing huge floppy hats.
I will live/love every single minute.
I hope your weekend is equally as wonderful.
Cheers,
Elena
P.S. I just might post some photos. Be on the lookout…
Just like yesterday…

This goes way back. Back before honeymoon in Europe. Before engagement rings. Before moving boxes and shared pets. I mean, we were just dating.
I know it’s my birthday weekend. I know we’re in Key West celebrating. I’m wearing a vintage locket that I just got for my birthday at 90 Miles From Cuba (my soon to be favorite vintage/antique shop in Key West) and a peach cotton voile top. We’re on Buddy Owen’s skiff and Buddy himself is giving me a birthday tour. I love the smile on my face and the way his body is turned toward mine.
We are so happy.
(and about five years later, on our second wedding anniversary, we still are)
Coffee run, Keys Style…
Baby’s Coffee, the southernmost roaster in the U.S. just happens to reside at about mile marker 14 on U.S. 1, about a 15 minute drive from Key West proper. They roast some killer beans, serve up mucho cups of joe and espresso, plus many delectable goodies. On our last day of the Christmas holiday, The Man and I decided to make a coffee run and hopped in the convertible for a quick drive…

It’s set back off the road, so if you blink, you’ll miss it.

No New York Times available. Bummer. But plenty of Key Noters!

Their ever-present third eye logo shows up even in the art.
If you’re in Key West and want to drink Baby’s, I know that Blue Heaven serves it (order it up with their Key Lime Pie - best on the island!) and a couple of bed and breakfasts serve it around town.
It’s Christmas Eve: the presents are wrapped, we riffled through our stockings this morning (a day early here at Casa hunt Beautiful) and now we’re packing the convertible. Key West here we come! I wish everyone a wonderful, restful merry-filled weekend.
Cheers,
Elena

Christmas in Margarita-ville…

I have Christmas with palm trees almost every year now. It’s really nothing new at this point. But this year, due to a wedding in the extended family, I will be in Key West for Christmas! The Man and I will drive down and stay on the Yellow Bird, a mighty-fine boat that is docked over at the Key West Yacht Club and enjoy some sun, sand and family for a couple of days. I promise, lots of pictures*!
*the above picture is B.O.’s Fish Wagon on Caroline Street. Home of the best darn fish sandwich on the island and home to the biggest, best darn bubba in Key West: Buddy Owen himself. Visiting Buddy’s is mandatory while in the Conch Republic.
