All the ladies*…

In Kirsten McCrea’s project named Hot Topic, she takes on the daunting task of painting every single person named in the Le Tigre song of the same name. That’s over 60 portraits of some major feminist icons. That’s three years of painting!
I found out about it over at Art Hound, and was taken aback by the portraits. Full of color and bold lines, they pop and there are so many great people to choose from. But my favorite is Ms. Gertrude Stein. There is such a whimsy to this portrait: all the little whirls that crawl up over her bust and neck, forming almost an Elizabethan collar, the flowers that fade into the top left corner.
I would not mind taking her home…how about you?

The portraits are simply beautiful. It was love at first look for me…
I could not help the reblog. It was instantaneous…
Neat! Ninalee Craig, the woman in Ruth Orkin’s iconic 1951 “American Girl in Italy,” talks about her time being photographed by Ruth Orkin.
She’s now 83 years old. The orange shawl is the same one she wore in the 1951 photo.
