I drive by an open vacant lot every day on my way to work. It’s unusual to have a vacant lot in Miami (everything gets gobbled up for McMansions - ugh), and this lot is lucky enough to be 1.5 acres. Strange that it’s been left alone for so long.
I’m grateful that it’s empty. There are beautiful trees and vines all throughout and the ground is soft with needles from Dade County Pine trees (going extinct), small broken branches and bird feathers. The smell was of earth, decaying leaves and pollen.
I took pictures for about 10 minutes, just exploring the light. Light - falling, shifting, streaming, taking up the entire frame or peeking around a branch. Beautiful light.
Not afraid of snakes or the barking dogs next door. Completely ignoring the Keep Out sign. My ballet flats full of dirt and pine needle, grinding against my arch as I walked towards my car.
Everything is beautiful in the Golden Hour of sunset.
Happiness is.
